Since taking on the little bigtop tents formally known as Fred’s Flying Circus in Feb 2013, Circus Pazaz has been a lot of fun & hard work to match. We’ve had some wonderful feedback, often with some schools & events inviting us back year after year. We ourselves have made plenty of happy memories & we know we’ve made happy memories for lots of Kidz, families, teachers & members of the public, not to mention raising funds for schools as our shows are often put on as a PTA fundraiser alongside a fete or as a stand-alone event – a circus visit in your own school grounds is both novel and a fun way to entertain the whole community & fundraise! click here for more info about booking.
Like many small businesses after the uncertain covid period we were very close to closing down completely, especially as our old but well looked after tent was now well over 20yrs old and we were aware the canvas top & walls were in need of replacing. However, we are pleased to say that Tilly Twist who has been involved for the majority since 2013 has now become joint partner so it’s been an exciting 2022! We are proud to say that we did visit all the schools that we had booked in since 2019 as well as many new schools booking in 2022 – from Eastbourne to Pontypridd this summer ’22 we set up our little bigtop show in over 30 locations!
We ordered & received our new yellow & white canvas top & walls and have made a completely new stage backdrop with curtains, beautifully hand painted by Brighton seaside artist www.davepopart.com
We have featured a larger variety of performers this year than ever before, with some artists from previous years joining us again & some fabulous new additions to the Circus Pazaz team. Audiences were thoroughly entertained by our rotating cast of performers- the finely honed skills of Ringmasters Tom Roy, Marky Jay & Paddy Waters kept the shows running smoothly with the audiences in stitches of laughter, not to mention impressive juggling, diabolo & plate spinning skills. Tilly Twist was back performing her trademark hula hoop act, as well as some comedy acrobatics with ringmaster Tom Roy & duo juggling with Paddy. Our aerialists this year were the fabulous CJ Carnell with her new beach themed trapeze act, the glamorous Loz Because on aerial silks and the daring Hobbit on corde lisse with a web spin to end! Hobbit also performed an impressive handstand act as Nellie the elephant, which became a firm favourite with our audiences this year. Loz Because and Marky Jay brought their incredible plate spinning routine to the Circus Pazaz show this season, getting all 8 china plates spinning in the traditional vaudeville style with plenty of comedy to boot.
Foolish Jake joined us this year with their unique blend of slapstick comedy and beatboxing, amazing flowerstick skills and mesmerising ring manipulation. Hobbit and Jake’s child Anoush took part in the Circus Pazaz finale (whenever they wanted to), with a guest spot of trio acrobatics and always getting a huge round of applause for their appearance. Jacob Hi-Ho and Dave Stone (aka “Ballman”) appeared with us for a few stands, bringing some brilliant acts to the show – Jacob with his well-trained diabolo act and comedy unicycle skills and Dave with his unique and impressive brand of ball juggling. Chants of “Ballman” resonated around the school the next day during the circus workshops! Zaz the Clown appeared numerous times throughout the season, delighting children and adults alike with his comedy antics and skills, with Ollie and Zac his two young clowns joining him for some shows including a new magical illusion act together that got a fantastic audience response.
We also welcomed guest appearances from Miss Purple Haze with her contortion chair act, Zak Owen with his high energy juggling, a couple of up & coming performers – young teenager Harvey juggle with his rola-bola routine, perfected whilst busking at at Covent Gardens, Joe Wilcox with handstands & ball 5 juggling, and Verity B on the aerial lyra. Jade Knights with dragon staff and various other amazing skills joined us during the summer holidays as we were again shipped out to the Channel Islands for the 6th time for the awesome Alderney Week festival 2022. Here are a few photos of us in action!

It’s not that often our tents are up without a #littlecircusbigfun #circuspazaz circus showtime! but they do make great venues too, like for this 40th birthday party at the weekend who wanted to book an undercover outdoor space for their event and luckily for them we did have some availability in between our schools & summer events tour!
We are now getting back into the swing of things, its now May & we have already visited a few schools and received some really great feedback! “We had the best time with you all on Saturday at our school, it couldn’t have gone any better. From ticket sales alone, for the 3 shows the PTA raised £2,200 profit!! The children all loved it & for some it was their first every circus experience so thank you for making it so fab! St Mary’s school Byfleet, Surrey. “ We also got a mention on BBC Radio 2 thanks to presenter Bobby Prior who said she saw our little show at a nearby school fete at the weekend!
We are pleased to have started our summer ’22 tour of schools & family friendly events again! This year we have some new faces to add to our team of hand picked professional circus performers to entertain families & children of all ages! You can see our tour dates listed here! We hope to see you in our little Big Top soon! here are some photos from the Easter halfterm…
Happy New Year! Here at Circus Pazaz we are looking forward to be back in 2022! – taking our little circus experience to schools & events around the country, doing what we love – spreading smiles, joy & laughs to family audiences wherever we go! We’ve been busy backstage making some changes & have some exciting news – Circus Pazaz is now a joint partnership! Tilly Twist (Emily Ball) is now joining Clown Zaz (Matt Indge) in partnership, prouducing & running the little bigtop business that she has been part of since 2013 soon after Zaz took on the circus from Fred Delius (of Fred’s Flying Circus) when we became Circus Pazaz! What does the new partnership mean for Circus Pazaz? We aim to continue our circus work in the comunity as an affordable introduction to circus & small enough to fit in busy or built up areas, offering fundraising shows & workshops for schools whilst supplying family friendly festivals & community events with our have-a-go circus workshops area & bigtop shows. Our original tent is getting old now & we have a shiny new yellow & white big top canvas on order which we hope will arrive in July. This season Matt/Zaz will be taking more time to be a dad, leaving Tilly to manage the schools tour but he will still be out & about with the big top during the summer – you might even see Zaz’s kidz Izaac or Ollie performing too, they’ve been honing their circus skills over lockdown & enjoyed appearing in some of the shows we did in 2021. How Zaz & Tilly Tilly first met, Tilly was looking to borrow some circus equipment to run a local circus workshop – Zaz was kind enough to offer his help & mentioned that he was in the process of taking on Fred’s circus & was Tilly interested in any work. Well, that was back in 2013 & Tilly has been a big part of the circus ever since (she’s even got a tattoo of the big top!) 8 years on, it seems fitting that she is now a partner in Circus Pazaz. Tilly Twist has been performing for over 20 years now “I first got into circus when I was a child, I had a diabolo” (and gave myself a black eye practicing throwing and catching it!) I then won tickets via the local newspaper to 3 different circuses – all in the space of about a year & became very interested in circus. A friend of my parents taught me to spin fire poi, then another friend gave me some juggling balls & I spent a whole summer teaching myself to juggle. I taught myself to unicycle, and decided I wanted to be a circus performer. My first public show was at Bolney village Millenium Celebrations, organized by Brighton based Same Sky. I also did my work experience with them & want to thank them & Doctor Colin of Circus Box (my Circus dad!) for my first experiences of working in circus & performance. I decided that was my goal – choosing my GSCE options accordingly to involve drama & then going on to A levels before auditioning for Circus Space (now National Centre for Circus), Circomedia & Zippos Academy of Circus Arts. Being offered places at the last 2, I chose to attend Circomedia & from then on I haven’t looked back! Meeting Zaz & becoming part of Circus Pazaz has been a huge part of my performance life & I truly love the little bigtop & what we do, I’m so excited to be a partner & I look forward to many more shows, bringing smiles & laughs to everyone – I think we all need that more than ever now! I love the words of Ernest Hemingway….“The circus is the only ageless delight that you can buy for money. Everything else is supposed to be bad for you. But the circus is good for you. It is the only spectacle I know that, while you watch it, gives the quality of a truly happy dream.”
Here’s our team at the last show of the season this year. Cj Carnell, Tilly Twist, Anna Hayes and our favorite Clown, Zaz and son Ollie performed at the Billingual Primary school, Brighton & Hove’s annual fiesta for the 6th time! We’re already getting excited for next year’s events and getting back on the road doing what we love – if you’d like us to visit your school or event in 2022, contact us now for pta & booking info!
We are pleased to say that we have been doing some family events again during this short 2021 summer season & that we will be operating in summer 2022! It was wonderful to be performing in our little bigtop again in front of a live audience & we would like to thank all who made it possible & for booking us at their events despite so much uncertainty. Here are a few photos from our summer 2021, with covid saftey a priority we provided family open air circus workshops, visited just a few lucky local primary schools, performed our circus shows with special guests at the brilliant St Leonards community festival, put on summer-holiday circus activities for indoor shopping center’s & various Town councils then in September we set up in Hove park again for the 5th consecutive time for the Annual Bilingual school summer fiesta which really has grown into the biggest school fete fundraiser we have ever seen! during lockdown our children had more time practicing their circus skills & wanted to join in some of the shows with their dad clown Zaz! Ollie 7 riding unicycle & his older brother Izaac on diablo. Next summer During term time Tilly Twist will be leading the school tour with a new team of performers! Clown Zaz will be joining in the show again during the summer holidays…If you are on a school pta or would like to know more info about having circus pazaz at your family friendly event get in touch with us now! we are now taking bookings for summer 2022! & still have some availability during winter & for Christmas indoor circus shows & workshops suitable for school & community halls!
